Buttered Garlic Shrimp Recipe

I’ve been wanting to cook this Buttered Garlic Shrimp since I came here in the desert but access to the local wet market is not very easy — transportation issues. But after our trip to the Red Sea this morning, our group decided to pass by the fish market where I was able to buy a lot of fresh shrimps and as soon as we arrived home, I took a kilo of my shrimps horde and cook this sumptuous dish.

This Asian seafood recipe combines the sweet taste of lemon soda marinade which blends well with the rich flavors of butter and garlic making it a popular dish in the Philippines.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg. fresh shrimps (the largest that you could find)
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup garlic, chopped
  • 2 cups lemon soda (7-Up or Sprite)
  • 4 to 5 pcs. finger chilies, sliced into small rings
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. black pepper, freshly cracked (optional)

Season the shrimps with salt and pour lemon soda (just enough to cover the shrimps on the container) and allow to marinade for about 30 minutes. Heat half of the butter on a pan and cook half of the garlic until its flavor mixes with the butter. Add the shrimps, pour 2 cups of the marinade and freshly cracked pepper and let it cook until only a small portion of the marinade remains. Add the remaining garlic, butter and the chopped chilies. Turn off the heat as when all the butter has blended with the shrimp. Serve.
